Aberdeen Young Professionals (AYP), the local talent network for young professionals working in and around the city, held a presentation masterclass with Bob Keiller last week as part of its discussion series.

The sold-out masterclass – which was hosted and sponsored by Robert Gordon University – saw 20 young professionals from industries such as oil and gas, medicine and marine biology attend a three-hour presentation skills workshop. Keiller and his team – Derrick Thomson and Thor Holt –  who have delivered over 1,000 presentations, spoke to attendees about designing and structuring presentations while at the same time making them compelling and memorable.

Bob Keiller, business advisor says: “People have helped me along my business journey and now I want to give something back. How many times have you sat through a presentation that failed to inspire you? I want to inspire others and help them create memorable and authentic presentations that work.”

AYP was established in 2009 to create a platform for young professionals in the early stages of their careers to meet useful contacts in a relaxed and sociable environment. The group – which currently boasts more than 5,000 members – holds regular events which offer a unique opportunity to discuss industry issues with senior figures and network with other like-minded individuals.

Ross Jolly, founder of AYP, comments: “Presentation skills are a key area identified by our members where they wanted to upskill. Most presentations can be dull. We’re thrilled that Bob and his team have given their time to provide our members with an actionable and thought-provoking session.

“Attendees have described the event as one of the most impactful training seminars they have ever attended – and that’s what we want to offer our members.”

AYP recently launched its first mentor scheme, which is providing young professionals with the opportunity to be coached by local business leaders. The mentors from companies including EC-OG, Ledingham Chalmers and Nexen, are offering their time to provide invaluable career advice to young talent in Aberdeen.
