Last chance to book delegate spaces

Energy companies working offshore are being urged to consider the huge potential in the onshore unconventional gas sector and learn more about global opportunities and challenges at the second Unconventional Gas Aberdeen conference and exhibition, taking place on 27 and 28 November at the AECC. 

The event will bring together distinguished, international experts to share emerging findings from groundbreaking research, real successes and lessons learned from developments.  It will also highlight the opportunities for oil and gas companies to transfer skills and knowledge to take advantage of major unconventional projects planned in Europe and further afield. 

It’s claimed it could take five years for the UK to start producing shale gas on a commercial scale.  This follows estimates that the country is sitting on around £1.5 trillion of shale gas reserves, according to a report to be published shortly by the British Geological Survey, commissioned by the Government.

David Chenier, President, UK for ConocoPhillips will give a keynote speech at the two day event which is expected to attract hundreds of delegates who will also hear from operators such as Chevron, Instinct Energy, Cuadrilla and Dart Energy on their portfolios.  Other organisations set to give their perspectives include WWF, Urenco, AMEC, Simmons and Co and Buccleuch Estates.

The event is being chaired by Tom Pickering, who was a co-founder of Composite Energy, an early entrant into the sector.  He said: “There continues to be a great deal of interest, scepticism and scrutiny in this potentially game-changing industry.  Given that the UK is still very much at the exploration stage, the opportunity exists for the oil and gas industry to listen to and communicate with stakeholders concerned about such developments. 

“The industry has to technically demonstrate how those risks are being addressed and monitored safely.  These are challenging times but also exciting as a new source of energy can be unlocked generating more stable economic activity and security of supply for future generations.”

The event is being organised by an industry led committee with support from Aberdeen City Council, ITF, the global technology facilitator, and the Aberdeen section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
